Inside Our Bespoke Entrance Mat Process
14 July 2025
At Heckmondwike, we believe a bespoke entrance mat is more than just a practical surface, it’s a tactile piece of branding that tells your story from the moment someone steps inside. From the initial design to the final trims, our custom mats are built to last, combining durability with design to leave a lasting impression.
Here’s how we turn your logo or design into a custom-crafted mat that represents your brand with pride:
1. Digital Design Creation: Translating Identity into Design
Everything begins with your logo or design, the visual core of your brand. We transform your logo/design into a precise, digital template. This process involves careful colour matching, scaling, and layout optimisation, ensuring your brand looks just as bold on the floor as it does in print or online.

2. Mat Material Preparation: Built for Endurance
Next, we prepare the base mat, the foundation of your logo display. We use our signature fibre-bonded material in the product Diamond, a tough blend of polypropylene and recycled polyester fibres. Through a technique called needle punching, the fibres are densely entangled, creating a surface that’s:
- Highly durable
- Resistant to flattening
- Ideal for high-traffic spaces like schools, shops, offices, and reception areas
This material doesn’t just support your logo/design, it supports years of footfall without fading or fraying.
3. Laser Cutting: Precision That Speaks Volumes
Your digitally rendered logo/design is then transferred into our laser cutting system, where every shape, line, and curve is cut from coloured fibre material with exacting precision.
This stage is crucial for ensuring sharp edges, clean lettering, and faithful replication of brand colours. Unlike printed alternatives, our cut-in designs are made from the same durable mat fibres, meaning they won’t peel, crack, or fade with time.

4. Hand Assembly: The Art of Accuracy
The bespoke logo mat is assembled much like an upside-down jigsaw puzzle, where each laser-cut logo piece is carefully inserted into the matching cut-out sections of the base mat.
To secure the pieces, a white scrim material is first placed over the back of the logo, followed by a layer of hot melt glue applied on top of the scrim. Then, another layer of the white scrim material is laid over the glued area. Finally, heat is applied to this scrim, bonding it firmly to the base mat. This process ensures the logo pieces stay securely in place, creating a durable and seamless finish.

5. Rubber Backing Application: Stability Meets Strength
To ensure your (loose lay) mat stays firmly in place, we apply a waffle-patterned rubber backing. This not only enhances grip and slip resistance on hard floors and carpets, but also adds structure and weight to the mat, helping it lie flat and resist curling.
6. Trimming & Sealing: A Clean Finish
With the logo/design in place and backing applied, we move on to final trimming and edge sealing. This gives your mat its finished form, removing any excess material and reinforcing the edges to:
- Prevent fraying
- Enhance aesthetic appeal
- Reduce maintenance needs
What you’re left with is a mat that’s ready to work from day one, and built to last for years.
Key benefits include:
- Safer surfaces in busy environments
- Extended product lifespan
- Improved functionality in all seasons
The Result
At Heckmondwike, every bespoke entrance mat is a balance of form and function. It not only elevates your entrance visually but also stands up to the daily wear and tear of real-world use.
Whether you’re welcoming customers to your store, students into school, or visitors into your building, your logo mat acts as a silent ambassador for your brand, making an impression before a single word is spoken.
