Heckmondwike's Odyssey carpet tiles in Graphite and Dreadnought entrance carpet were chosen for this unique project, where the University Academy Long Sutton's sports hall was converted to a multi-use classroom and library space.
University Academy Long Sutton is a rural, mixed 11-16 secondary school in Spalding, Lincolnshire. The academy prides itself on a broad and balanced curriculum, with recently refurbished classrooms, Science laboratories and Design & Technology rooms. Also situated within the academy grounds is a leisure centre offering gym facilities, a drama studio and Astroturf.
As part of recent refurbishments, the academy chose to convert one of their sports halls to a multi-use classroom and library space, but were concerned about the ability to do this due to the suitability of the sub-floor.
Heckmondwike worked closely with the academy’s facilities manager and the flooring contractor, Flooring by Henton, to come up with an appropriate flooring solution. The academy wanted something unique and modern, which would stand the test of time. After discussing the variety of options, they decided to opt for Heckmondwike’s Odyssey carpet tiles, from the creative range.
270m2 of Odyssey tiles in the colour Graphite were installed in the sports hall, adding a bold and striking look to this large space, ensuring it was ready for the addition of classroom furniture. Odyssey is heavy contract rated and suitable for all commercial settings, coming complete with a 10-year warranty, Bfl-s1 fire rating and delivering a 20dB reduction in impact noise.
The choice of Heckmondwike carpet tiles also allows the academy to be flexible with the function of the sports hall space in the future, with the option to easily remove the tiles if needed.
