Originally devised and presented by London’s Design Museum, Sneakers Unboxed: Studio to Street is an international exhibition exploring the global impact of sneakers. Currently on a world tour from 2022 to 2026, its latest installation is at the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum in Doha, on display from October 28, 2025, through March 7, 2026.
The exhibition traces the evolution of sneakers from practical athletic footwear to powerful symbols of style, identity, and self-expression. Featuring over 200 pairs, including rare vintage items, limited editions, and landmark collaborations, it highlights pivotal moments in fashion, sport, and design, particularly following their adoption by youth cultures. Complementary photography, short films, and archival materials further illuminate the innovation, craftsmanship, and societal shifts that have shaped the global sneaker industry.
Heckmondwike’s Contribution
To support the exhibition and Qatar’s broader objective of promoting design excellence, the museum required a high-quality flooring solution that would support the visitor experience. Heckmondwike, in partnership with Baumeister Contracting & Trading & Services Co, supplied 535 m² of Supacord carpet tiles in four distinctive hues: Heather, Claret, Blue, and Aquamarine.
Supacord was selected for its robust, hard-wearing properties and versatile colour palette. The tiles provided a uniform, visually coherent surface that complemented the exhibition’s design scheme while facilitating a safe and comfortable environment for visitors. The bold yet balanced colour selection accentuated the exhibits without dominating them, supporting the exhibition’s narrative and the storytelling of sneaker evolution, identity, and creativity.
Supacord’s durability and low-maintenance attributes ensured that the flooring remained in pristine condition throughout the exhibition, even under substantial foot traffic. Its modular design enabled efficient installation and precise alignment, satisfying the logistical demands of a high-traffic, large-scale international showcase.
