Seaton Carew Community Hub: A £250,000 Transformation Project
Project Overview
After months of refurbishment and a recent rebrand, the Seaton Carew Community Hub, formerly known as Seaton Carew Library, reopened its door in April 2025. Originally opened in 1970, the venue now features a fresh new look, upgraded facilities, and an expanded range of activities and services designed to better serve the local community.
Project Goals
The transformation aimed to modernise outdated facilities, improve energy efficiency, and create a welcoming, flexible space that reflects the needs of today’s users, including families, students, and community groups. It forms part of a broader initiative to revitalise key public spaces across Hartlepool.
Design and Delivery
The £250,000 transformation project was led by Hartlepool Borough Council’s Consultancy Services Team, who also appointed the Council’s Construction Team to carry out the works. Once a tired and draughty building, the hub has been completely reimagined into a vibrant, multi-functional space. The new layout includes:
- A welcoming communal space
- An adult lending library
- A dedicated children’s area
- Public computers
- A modern meeting room
Flooring That Makes a Statement
As part of the interior upgrade, Heckmondwike FB was proud to supply its durable and patterned Array carpet tiles in Lime. Known for their bold colour options and heavy-duty performance, the Array tiles introduced a bright, energising look that complements the revitalised space.
Green is often associated with nature, balance, and calm, qualities that help promote focus and relaxation, making it ideal for reading and study environments. Brighter shades like Lime also inject a sense of vibrancy, and modernity, creating a livelier, more engaging atmosphere. This is particularly effective in the children’s area, where the colour strongly appeals to younger visitors.
The tiles’ subtle striped lime accents blend seamlessly with furnishings such as bookcases, aligning with the overall interior design scheme. The carpet installation was expertly completed by Florcraft Professional Contract Flooring Specialists, ensuring a high-quality finish consistent with the rest of the transformation.
Community Impact
Previously outdated, and underutilised, the building has been transformed into a bright, inclusive, and functional space that now stands as a vital community asset. Since reopening, the hub has welcomed increased footfall and engagement from residents of all ages.
The updated layout and improved facilities now support a wide range of uses, from quiet study and digital access to children’s storytelling sessions and local meetings, firmly establishing the Seaton Carew Community Hub as a cornerstone of the community.
