Case Study: Pix Brook Academy, Stotfold

  • Pix Brook Academy in Stotfold, Bedfordshire, is a new build school that was opened for the 2020/21 academic year.
  • The £22.5 million free school devised by the Bedfordshire Schools Trust, Central Bedfordshire Council and Department of Education provides education to over 1,000 pupils, aged nine to 16.
  • A unique project, constructed by Willmott Dixon and designed by Bond Bryan architects, the site was turned from a farmer’s field to a school in just over a year, making the most of offsite manufacturing to achieve 70% offsite construction.
  • The school consists of 210 separate units, enabling the project team to complete the groundworks and foundations on-site at the same time as the units were being built in the factory.
  • Due to the two company’s framework agreement, Heckmondwike worked closely with Willmott Dixon to supply its Supacord carpet tiles and Hippo specialist entrance carpet. Overall, over 3,000 square metres of Supacord was specified, alongside 150 square metres of Hippo.
