Project Overview

This year, one of the largest JD Sports stores embarked on a major renovation project aimed at improving the overall customer experience. A central part of the renovation was the redesign of the store’s entryway, with a specific focus on creating an entrance that was both clean and welcoming, while also being highly functional. To address these needs, the team chose Heckmondwike’s Hippo Entrance Matting in Anthracite, known for its durability and aesthetic appeal.

The Challenge

The key challenge was to select an entrance matting solution that could withstand high foot traffic while still maintaining a polished and professional appearance. Given the expected flow of customers, it was vital that the matting efficiently trapped dirt, moisture, and debris, without detracting from the store’s welcoming look. The entrance area had to remain clean and safe while also complementing the store’s modern design.

The Solution

The new Orsett Heath Academy in Grays, Essex, is a modern, three-storey building covering 8,610 square meters, designed to accommodate students aged 11-16. The building features collaborative breakout areas, a double-height dining hall, a performing arts hub, and high-quality classrooms, all tailored to foster an engaging and innovative learning environment.

• 105 square meters of Diamond tile in Steel Grey was chosen for the school’s entrance matting due to its durable, cobbled texture, specifically designed for high-traffic areas. This unique texture helps to trap dirt and moisture, preventing it from being carried further into the building, and helping to maintain a cleaner and safer environment. Its robust construction ensures long-lasting performance, making it an ideal choice for the school’s entrance, where durability and ease of maintenance are key priorities.

• The school installed 2975 square meters of Supacord carpet tiles in Charcoal throughout its classrooms, corridors, and library. Known for its hard-wearing, anti-ravel, and anti-fray properties, Supacord can withstand heavy foot traffic, making it a reliable choice for high-use areas.
