Located in the town of Bedale, North Yorkshire, Bedale High School is a high-performing, coeducational community school. In collaboration with the governing board, the school has set out an ambitious improvement plan, firmly committed to delivering significant outcomes for the community.
Their goals include securing an Ofsted Outstanding rating at the next inspection, consistently ranking within the top 5% of schools nationally, and undertaking a comprehensive refurbishment of the school site. A key element of this transformation included installing new carpets throughout the site to enhance the learning environment and create a modern, welcoming atmosphere for both staff and students alike.
The Need for Refreshment
As part of the school’s bold refurbishment programme, Bedale High School sought to update and modernise its facilities to reflect its high standards and future aspirations. The existing flooring had become dated and no longer matched the fresh, vibrant environment the school aimed to create. Installing new carpet was a step toward revitalising the space.
The Solution
As part of the site-wide refurbishment, Bedale High School opted for a combination of carpet tiles from the Array and Broadrib ranges, chosen in complementary shades of purple and blue. These selections offered the durability and practicality needed for high-traffic areas, while also aligning with the school’s updated visual identity.
Installation was carried out by Excel Flooring, who worked closely with the school to ensure a high-quality finish. The work was scheduled during school holidays to avoid disruption to students and staff.
Beyond functionality, the colour scheme was intentionally matched to the inspirational wall designs featured along the corridors, showcasing influential figures such as Steve Jobs, along with motivational quotes. This cohesive approach helped create a more uplifting and engaging environment that reflects the school’s values and commitment to student motivation and wellbeing.
The Outcome
The installation of the new carpet tiles has had a positive impact across the school environment. Classrooms now benefit from a cleaner, more professional appearance, while corridors and communal areas feel brighter, more welcoming, and easier to maintain.
By coordinating the carpets with the school’s inspirational wall displays, the refurbishment has reinforced Bedale High School’s vision of creating an aspirational, high-quality setting that reflects its academic ambitions and dedication to student success.
The project forms a key part of the school’s ongoing improvement plan and represents a meaningful step towards achieving its goal of becoming an Ofsted Outstanding institution.
A Foundation for Success
The carpet installation at Bedale High School demonstrates how thoughtful design choices can play a vital role in supporting a wider school improvement strategy. By combining high-performance flooring with a cohesive aesthetic that aligns with the school’s values, the project has delivered both practical and visual benefits. The new carpets have helped create a more inspiring, comfortable, and future-ready learning environment, one that reflects the school’s ambition and commitment to excellence.

Seaton Carew Community Hub: A £250,000 Transformation Project
Project Overview
After months of refurbishment and a recent rebrand, the Seaton Carew Community Hub, formerly known as Seaton Carew Library, reopened its door in April 2025. Originally opened in 1970, the venue now features a fresh new look, upgraded facilities, and an expanded range of activities and services designed to better serve the local community.
Project Goals
The transformation aimed to modernise outdated facilities, improve energy efficiency, and create a welcoming, flexible space that reflects the needs of today’s users, including families, students, and community groups. It forms part of a broader initiative to revitalise key public spaces across Hartlepool.
Design and Delivery
The £250,000 transformation project was led by Hartlepool Borough Council’s Consultancy Services Team, who also appointed the Council’s Construction Team to carry out the works. Once a tired and draughty building, the hub has been completely reimagined into a vibrant, multi-functional space. The new layout includes:
- A welcoming communal space
- An adult lending library
- A dedicated children’s area
- Public computers
- A modern meeting room
Flooring That Makes a Statement
As part of the interior upgrade, Heckmondwike FB was proud to supply its durable and patterned Array carpet tiles in Lime. Known for their bold colour options and heavy-duty performance, the Array tiles introduced a bright, energising look that complements the revitalised space.
Green is often associated with nature, balance, and calm, qualities that help promote focus and relaxation, making it ideal for reading and study environments. Brighter shades like Lime also inject a sense of vibrancy, and modernity, creating a livelier, more engaging atmosphere. This is particularly effective in the children’s area, where the colour strongly appeals to younger visitors.
The tiles’ subtle striped lime accents blend seamlessly with furnishings such as bookcases, aligning with the overall interior design scheme. The carpet installation was expertly completed by Florcraft Professional Contract Flooring Specialists, ensuring a high-quality finish consistent with the rest of the transformation.
Community Impact
Previously outdated, and underutilised, the building has been transformed into a bright, inclusive, and functional space that now stands as a vital community asset. Since reopening, the hub has welcomed increased footfall and engagement from residents of all ages.
The updated layout and improved facilities now support a wide range of uses, from quiet study and digital access to children’s storytelling sessions and local meetings, firmly establishing the Seaton Carew Community Hub as a cornerstone of the community.
